Hannelore De Vuyst

Hannelore De Vuyst (Wetteren, Belgium 1995) began her studies in 2012 at the School of Arts, Conservatory in Ghent under the guidance of instructor Alessandro Moccia. During her bachelor’s program, she participated in an Erasmus exchange in 2015 at the F. Liszt Academy in Budapest, where she received instruction from Katalin Kokas and Barnabás Kelemen. She then continued her journey and was admitted to the master’s program at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the class of Johannes Leertouwer. During this period, she also became a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. She earned her master’s degree in May 2019. Following her studies, Hannelore successfully auditioned and became an academist with the Sinfonieorchester Aachen. Additionally, she pursued a baroque violin training at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under the guidance of instructor Antoinette Lohmann.

Hannelore approaches the musical spectrum with a broad perspective. She is a musician with the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, regularly performs in theater productions, and forms a duo with violist Hessel Moeselaar. Her significant inspiration lies in creating connections between various (secular) socio-cultural interactions and forms of art. Hannelore has also been featured in various television and radio programs such as Podium Klassiek, Spiegelzaal NPO klassiek, and Vrij spel.

Furthermore, Hannelore focuses primarily on chamber music. She co-founded the ADAM Quartet, which was part of the post-academic program of the Dutch String Quartet Academy. During this program, the ensemble received regular masterclasses from renowned string quartets such as Quatuor Danel, Quatuor Ebène, and Jerusalem Quartet. Starting from January 2024, she will further pursue her passion for chamber music as the second violinist with the Matangi Quartet.

Hannelore plays a violin built in 2023 by Matthieu Devuyst, on loan to her from Strings for Talents and the King Baudouin Foundation. Her bow, made by F. Lotte, was financed with the support of the Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrument (SEM).

Matthieu Devuyst is a violin maker based in Vienna, Austria, who makes and tunes violins for an international clientele of professional musicians.
After graduating from the violin-making school in Mirecourt (France) in 1996 and Newark (UK) in 1998, Matthieu began making violins at the Machold workshop in Bremen, where he discovered the instruments of the Italian classical schools. For 5 years, he analysed and restored violins made by the greatest master violinmakers, including Stradivarius, Guarnerius and Amatis, enabling him to refine his research into the quality and sound power of violins. In 2004, he was invited to join the Machold workshop in Vienna, the crossroads of world classical music, where he met many renowned musicians.
Through these exchanges, he discovered and understood the precise expectations that musicians have of their violins, which has enabled him to improve the acoustic quality and fine-tuning of his instruments.
One of Matthieu’s priorities is to get as close as possible to the specific expectations of each musician. The development of his violins reflects this, but is also the fruit of his constant quest for quality.
Matthieu Devuyst’s violins are played all over the world, from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra to chamber music in Vienna and as a soloist in the United States.
